Gananoque, Ontario- The skies of Gananoque will never be the same this winter after an exciting fireworks display is scheduled on Saturday, February 18, at 6:30pm at Joel Stone Beach. A new event which has been secured with the help of G.L.A.D. Plumbing & Heating, the Gananoque B.I.A., The 1000 Islands Chamber of Commerce, TD Bank, Keyes Real Estate & Insurance as well as Bickerton Brokers Ltd.
“We have had some very generous businesses come forward to make this event possible”. Says Lori Higgs, event chairperson. “The Town and Gananoque Fire & Police Departments have as well made this new event happen with their support and by volunteering”, replies Higgs. In its second year, the Thousand Islands Accommodation Partners have spearheaded this winter weekend event full of fun for families and adults by making this event affordable for all.
David Whysall International Fireworks Inc. will be on-site providing the latest in computer-assisted choreography and state of the art firing equipment as part of the Pondapalooza Weekend Family Day Weekend in Gananoque, Ontario.
This winter weekend event will also feature returning events like the 1000 Islands Adult Pond Hockey & Pond Curling Championships, Family Events and Skating, Vendor’s Village, Gananoque Brewing Company Ice Bar and Celebrity Alumni Pond Hockey Challenge bringing back players like Brad Marsh, Fred O’Donnell, Rick Smith, Ron Plumb, Ed Staniowski and many other favorites.
New to the weekend this year is the Gananoque Curling Club Kids Curling Clinic, Redmond Realty Kids Ice Fishing Derby, Kingston Running Room Freeze Your Buns Fun 1km and 5km Fun Runs, Findlay Food presenting The Taste of Gananoque, The Cabaret Comedy Collective “On The Rocks” dinner & show at the Gananoque Curling Club and Magic Shows at the Best Western Country Squire Resort.
The huge Pondapalooza Christmas Tree Burn & Hot Chocolate Night will lead the weekend of events on Friday night at the Gananoque Recreation Centre and is sponsored by Tim Horton’s and the Arthur Child Heritage Centre.
Last year’s event featured funny man Rick Mercer and this year kicking off the weekend of events is Jennifer Valentyne and the ever popular Toronto’s Breakfast Television live filming at the waterfront on Thursday, February 16th, 2012. A Charity BBQ Breakfast will be available and the community is asked to come out and show your town spirit before taking the kids to school. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Rotary Club of Clayton is sponsoring a dinner-theater event featuring the Riverside Theater Company in an production of the hilarious comedy “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s”. Benefiting the Rotary Scholarship Fund, the proceeds will support graduates of the Thousand Islands and Lafargeville School Districts.
The dinner-theater production will run for two evenings, Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, at the Clayton Opera House.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. each evening with dinner at 5:30 and theater at 7:00 p.m. A cash bar will be available beginning at 5:00 p.m.
